Público alvo:

New and experienced teachers of English who:

- want to learn or brush upon the basic principles of effective teaching;

- seek to acquire, improve or refresh their practical teaching skills for teaching English to adult learners;

- aim to have lots of hands-on teaching practice;

- would like to observe other teachers in action;

- need to build their confidence as teachers.

The entry requirements are:

- being at least 18 years old;

- having an advanced level of English (high C1 on the CEFR);

- having a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education.

Programa do curso:

A blend of practice and theory encompassing the following five main areas:

- learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning contexts;

- language analysis and awareness;

- language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing;

- planning and resources for different teaching contexts;

- developing teaching skills and professionalism.

On the course you will:

- teach for 6 hours at two different levels;

- receive feedback from experienced tutors on a regular basis;

- observe peers and experienced teachers teaching;

- complete around 30 units of work online;

- write four assignments;

- have individual tutorials along the course;

- manage a portfolio online.


On a continuous basis. Teaching, writing assignments, self-appraising, observing peers, and managing a portfolio.

There is no final examination. You will be graded and assessed by the tutors on a continuous basis. An external assessor, appointed by Cambridge: English, will visit the course in its later stages to moderate the assessment.

On the course you will:

- teach for 6 hours at two different levels;

- receive feedback from experienced trainers on a regular basis;

- observe peers and experienced teachers teaching;

- attend around 40 input sessions;

- write four assignments;

- have individual tutorials along the course;

- manage a portfolio that can be retrieved 6 months after the course is over.

Elaine Sutcliffe has worked in ELT since 1992. She has taught in Brazil, Poland and the United Kingdom. She gained her IhTTC and the COTE while working for International House in Recife, Brazil. She then worked for Cultura Inglesa Sao Paulo for 3 years, before moving to the UK in 2000. She lived in London for 5 years, where she worked as a lecturer and as an advanced practitioner at Westminster Kingsway College. During this time she also completed her MA in International Education and the Cambridge Delta. She moved back to Brazil in October 2005, and has been a tutor for Cambridge CELTA since then. She is now based in the UK.

Henrique Moura is a CELTA, ICELT and Delta tutor, and a CELTA and Delta external assessor. He has worked with ELT since 2002, teaching general English at all levels of proficiency, and special courses of phonetics and phonology, translation and subtitling, and post-proficiency maintenance courses. He has assessed CELTA courses in Brazil and abroad. Henrique has worked as a course designer, and is currently the coordinator for the teacher development courses at SEVEN Idiomas. He is also a Cambridge: English speaking examiner (YLS and KET-CPE). He is currently pursuing an MA in Teacher Development.
